16 October 2010 –

Competitive Swimming Day

32 swimmers from 12 clubs thoroughly enjoyed training from Olympic Silver medallist Joanne Deakins   and Commonwealth Gold medallist Adam Ruckwood  with demonstrations from National Squad member Mark Branch  .  Technique, starts & turns, and streamlining were the focus of the day, along with land training exercises.  The swimmers, aged 9-15, were attentive and concentrated on the elite coaching and improved instantly on their skills.  Melanie Jeffrey gave a talk - regarding the dangers of swimming alone and hyperventilating before swimming - raising awareness of Shallow Water Blackout.  Spontaneous donations were made, total £53.54 – thank you very much.

With thanks to our sole sponsor - Alexander Rose, Beards the Jeweller, 70 Promenade, Cheltenham, GL50 1NA.

19 September 2010 - Steve Smith

Triathlon Success at Newent Sports Centre

Steve swam 400m, cycled 18km, and ran 10km in 1hour 38mins, a tremendous personal achievement!  His daughter Charlotte attended the Competitive Swimming Day in Coventry 2009 and she thoroughly enjoyed the day’s training.  To say ‘thank you’ to the Trust, Steve is raising funds through sponsorship for undertaking the Triathlon at Newent Sports Centre on 19th September 2010.

21 June 2010 – Straits of Gibraltar

Our principal Sponsors and Supporters have taken to the water again!  Chris Smith, Richard Ing, James Salter and Rob Telford returned to the Mediterranean and swam from Gibraltar to Morocco in 5 hours (24 miles in 20o water).  The Gibraltar Straits are known as one of the toughest swimming challenges out there; less than 300 people have made it to the other side.  After 3hrs, the swimmers were half-way and hoping to achieve a British speed record, however the sighting of a Sperm Whale slowed the group down!!  Fundraising totals £850 – thank you lads!
